Eureka Hill Portfolio
An old log house and detached garage have been completely re-made into a sophisticated family homestead and guest cottage. In the main house, mural work in the entry and eating area add color and scale to the large spaces, with birch tree trunks mirroring a grove outside the kitchen window. Wall finishes compliment the log structure, and create the perfect backdrop for artwork. Natural colored and organic-looking carpets were selected to create a seamless color and texture connection to the wood. And an extraordinary custom-designed and elaborately finished "peacock cabinet" commemorates a trip to India, and holds the owner’s extensive Native American basket collection.
The guesthouse has been given finishes - both inside and out - to create the illusion of an old seaside barn. Trusses have been distressed to create a patina of age, and exterior siding has been washed to in soft browns and grays. Hand-painted details on the support beams in the interior add whimsy to the antiqued ceiling and rusted hardware. The client describes the interior wall finish as "sun lit adobe". Furnishings were selected for texture, warmth and color.
